Job Description:


Responsible forassisting in the surface water monitoring and sampling for compliance with State stormwater regulations and watershed protection.

Essential Functions and Other Important Duties

Essential Functions:

* Performs water sample collection, processing, and basic water quality analysis. Involves surface water sample collection, storage, and preservation according to approved protocol for handling and custody
* Deploys, calibrates, operates, and recovers remote stream monitoring equipment
* Conducts wet and dry weather screening of streams, ponds and outfalls
* Provides and coordinates maintenance of data sondes, automatic water sampling equipment and cleaning vehicles
* Prepares and maintains an inventory of all equipment necessary to perform the above-mentioned duties
* Serves as field crew lead, assigns daily tasks and provides training to part-time interns
* Troubleshoots and maintains data telemetry equipment
* Assists with public education, outreach events and school programs
* Cleans portable sampling equipment and laboratory glassware in compliance with acceptable protocols
* Assists with stormwater site inspections
* Utilizes computer software such as spreadsheets and databases for tracking data and reporting
* Update and create GIS layers
* Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance

Additional Duties:

* Conducts investigations in response to reported illicit discharges
* Performs other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:

* Bachelor's degree in biology, natural resources, environmental science, chemistry, geology, engineering or related field


* High school diploma or GED equivalent?and?one year of experience in environmental monitoring, water resources management, field inspection for construction or industrial projects, environmental inspection, plan reviewing or related field


* Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

* Bachelor's degree with training in biology, natural resources, environmental science, chemistry or geology
* Experience with environmental analysis

Conditions of Employment:

* Must have and maintain a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
* Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check and social security number verification
* Must pass a physical examination
* Must be able to work in all weather conditions
* May be required to work weekends or evenings as needed to support outreach activities
* Must be able to distinguish colors to conduct laboratory colorimetric analyses
* Must be able to enter confined spaces
