Job Description JOB SUMMARY The Trauma Process Improvement (PI)
Coordinator RN, under direction of the Manager Trauma Programs, is
responsible for coordination and facilitation of the Trauma
Performance Improvement Program. Responsible for monitoring and
coordinating trauma care to ensure quality care for the trauma
patient. Provides coordination and facilitation of performance
improvement activities, including data collection, analysis,
trending, and benchmarking of data outcomes. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF
THE ROLE Responds to trauma activation pages when available to
provide clinical support and to evaluate effectiveness of trauma
resuscitation process. Responds to disaster activation and performs
RN duties as required. Develops, implements, and evaluates a Trauma
Process Improvement Program in collaboration with the Trauma
Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director, and ensures the trauma
program meets state regulatory and accrediting standards for
performance improvement and patient safety. Oversees the
collection, tracking and benchmarking of trauma PI issues related
to patient care and system development. Maintains the tracking
system for case reviews and performance improvement reports.
Ensures loop closure is obtained and tracked in registry.
Participates in assessment, development, implementation, and
evaluation of processes and education for process improvement in
the care of trauma patients. Integrates the trauma registry in the
trauma PI process. Integrates or links trauma PI with hospital or
system PI. Maintains Trauma Dept Dashboards monthly and evaluates
outcomes of PI projects related to dashboard metrics. Collaborates
with managers, staff, and education team to identify, implement,
and evaluate education programs for trauma based on new trauma care
guidelines, research, evidence-based practice, and the educational
needs of units for quality/process improvement as well as
activities specific to the patient population as evidenced by
trauma registry data. Provides trauma education in trauma
orientation classes in the ED. Coordinates and instructs in
outreach education programs such as ATLS, ATCN, and TNCC.
Participates in community and hospital outreach programs. KEY
SUCCESS FACTORS Advanced understanding of Trauma process
improvement, terminology and standards. Knowledge and understanding
of nursing and patient care standards and procedures. Knowledge of
laws, rules and regulations; standards and guidelines of certifying
and accrediting bodies; hospital and department/unit standards,
protocols, policies and procedures governing the provision of
nursing care applicable to the area of assignment. Knowledge of
medical terminology; principles and practices of health promotion,
risk reduction, illness and disease prevention and management;
medications and drugs, common dosages, their physical and
physiological effects, and possible adverse reactions. Knowledge of
medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly, both verbally and in
writing. Ability to effectively use a variety of teaching methods.
Interpersonal skills to interact with a wide-range of
constituencies. Must have critical thinking and problem-solving
skills. Ability to understand, optimize and document complex
processes. General computer skills, including but not limited to:
Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll
systems, electronic medical documentation, and email. Research and

type and/or level QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION - Bachelor's - MAJOR -
Nursing - EXPERIENCE - 3 Years of Experience -
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - Registered Nurse (RN) ACLS
(ACLS): ACLS or ACLS within 30 days of hire or transfer. Basic Life
Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
Trauma Outcomes & Performance (TOPIC): Trauma Outcome Performance
Improvement Course (TOPIC) required within 12 months of hire.
Emergency Nrs Pediatric (ENPC), Pedi Adv Life Support (PALS): PALS
within 30 days or ENPC within 180 days. RN- Advanced Trauma Care
(ATCN), Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC): ATCN or TNCC within 180
days.
