Location: Dallas, Texas Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent Physician
Leadership Opportunity Overview A large, nationally recognized
public healthcare system is seeking an experienced Medical Director
of Correctional Health Services to provide clinical and operational
leadership within a comprehensive correctional healthcare program
in Dallas, Texas . This physician leader will oversee the delivery
of high-quality, patient-centered medical care in a complex
correctional environment while collaborating with multidisciplinary
teams across primary care, behavioral health, specialty services,
and hospital-based programs . The role offers the opportunity to
drive innovation in care delivery, improve health outcomes for an
underserved population, and lead a dedicated team of healthcare

ResponsibilitiesClinical Leadership Direct and coordinate all
medical services within the correctional healthcare program.
Provide clinical oversight for adult health and women’s health
services using established medical protocols. Collaborate with
behavioral health leadership to deliver integrated care. Model a
patient-centered physician practice , emphasizing communication,
respect, and clear explanations of care. Modify care approaches to
accommodate sensory impairments, aging populations, and individual
patient needs . Program Management & Operations Lead and supervise
physicians and advanced practice providers. Serve as the
supervising physician for APPs and provide consultation to nursing
leadership. Analyze workflows, job design, and operational
processes to improve efficiency and care delivery. Assist with
development and implementation of clinical policies, protocols, and
procedures. Oversee quality improvement initiatives and performance
management programs. Develop and monitor departmental goals and
strategic initiatives aligned with organizational priorities.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement Maintain collaborative
relationships with: Correctional leadership and security personnel
Hospital and specialty service providers Community partners and
vendors Patients and their families Serve as liaison between
correctional healthcare providers and hospital-based specialty
services. Support physician recruitment, retention, and
professional development initiatives . Education & Training Provide
medical education and mentorship to residents, students, and
advanced practice providers . Assist with orientation programs,
health education initiatives, and professional development
activities. Job Accountabilities Evaluate departmental workflows
and implement improvements to increase operational efficiency.
Maintain compliance with all laws, accreditation requirements, and
regulatory standards . Establish internal controls to ensure
compliance with state, federal, and health plan requirements.
Develop and manage annual departmental budgets . Lead staff
selection, training, evaluation, and disciplinary processes when
necessary. Ensure team members have opportunities for continued
professional development and education . Required Qualifications MD
or DO from an accredited medical school Completion of ACGME or AMA
approved residency program Board Certified or Board Eligible in an
appropriate specialty Minimum 5 years of clinical management or
leadership experience Ability to supervise physicians and advanced
practice providers Experience working in multidisciplinary
healthcare environments Strong leadership, communication, and
collaboration skills Texas medical license or ability to obtain
within 180 days Clean malpractice and licensure history strongly
preferred Current NPDB Self Query Report (within 30 days) required
at time of presentation At least one professional reference within
the past 24 months Preferred Qualifications Experience in
correctional healthcare environments Spanish language proficiency
Experience recruiting, developing, and mentoring medical teams
Demonstrated ability to address social determinants of health in
care planning Skills & Competencies Exceptional written and verbal
communication skills Ability to build strong working relationships
with physicians and leadership teams Strong organizational skills
with attention to both detail and strategic objectives Innovative
and solutions-oriented leadership style Ability to synthesize
complex information and communicate effectively to large groups
Comfortable working in fast-paced or evolving environments
