Job Description:

Summary Responsible for handling sensitive information and multiple tasks at the same time, paying attention to detail and accuracy while maintaining professionalism and courtesy. Record Technicians may work from home for as many as 50% to 90% of scheduled hours, with supervisor approved based on business necessity. Essential Functions and Other Important Duties Essential Functions: * Provides customer service by researching and providing records in a timely and efficient manner. * Ability to answer a large volume of general inquiry and non-emergency calls from citizens, assisting with requests or transferring to appropriate personnel. * Reviews, assigns and validates records for offenses, detention, citation and arrest reports to facilitate accurate data entry and compliance with city, state, and national guidelines. * Completes and assures correct coding of initial, incident, complaint, and arrest reports according to violation type and any other pertinent information pursuant to applicable state statutes and federal reporting systems. * Enters and maintains the integrity of data into a computer system to build databases that provide information for criminal activity, management of records, statistical reports, and special searches as required. * Conducts and reviews criminal history and background checks in conjunction with processing permits and licensing documents. * Assists patrol officers by providing information from the classification manual published by the Federal Bureau of Investigations to ensure accurate account of offenses. * Responds to court ordered expunctions, sealing of juvenile records and orders of non-disclosure. * Reviews all Open Records requests within the time period mandated by the Texas Public Information Act and consults with the City Attorney regarding proper disposition. Coordinates the gathering of information within the department and disseminates to the appropriate personnel. * Collects fees, provides receipts and prepares daily cash reports for monies received for services. * Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance. * Must be able to work a 10 hour schedule with possible overtime. Additional Duties: * Notarizes official records and reports. * Performs other related duties as assigned. Job Requirements Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: * High school diploma or GED equivalent. * 1 to 2 years of responsible administrative/clerical experience. OR * Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: * Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. * Ability to take initiative, make decisions, and work independently with minimal supervision. * Ability to comprehend and implement state laws relating to records retention and dissemination according to the local government records control schedule and Texas State Library and Archives Commission. * Ability to read, understand, and review documents for accuracy and relevant information. * Ability to perform a variety of office support and clerical duties and activities of a general and specialized nature in support of departmental operations. * Ability to form strong interpersonal skills, maintaining effective relationships with coworkers and customers. * Ability to maintain sensitive information in a confidential manner. * Ability to meet critical deadlines. * Ability to type and enter data accurately at a speed necessary for successful job performance. * Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. * Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance when working in office or telecommuting * Proficient in usingMicrosoft Office software including Word, Outlook, and Excel. * Proficient knowledge of data entry systems and procedures. * When telecommuting, every employee shall be online and available between 7am - 5pm CST * Proficient written and verbal skills Preferences: * Bilingual in Spanish and English * Prior experience within a law enforcement agency is preferred. * Ability to type at least 40 words a minute and 10 key by touch. Conditions of Employment: * Must successfully complete the employment process which will include the following: typing test, fingerprints, drug screen, criminal history background check and social security number verification.
