As part of the Navys Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate Program (NUPOC), youll join a world-renowned team of engineers, scientists and educators who manage the Sailors and maintain the propulsion plants for the Navys most important assets. From day-one, your skills in math, science and engineering will be put to the test in hands-on environments. You could be in command of the entire propulsion plant on a billion-dollar warship, or you could serve behind the scenes as a reactors engineer in a submarine, designing the control rods that keep our ships afloat. There are even teaching posts available for Officers to instruct the next generation on the fundamentals of nuclear power. Your opportunities in the world of nuclear power are as diverse as your skillset. Advanced Engineering Jobs Available: ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN NUCLEAR Nuclear Electronics Technicians operate and perform maintenance on the electronic systems that make the nuclear reactor on Navy ships run. From submarines to aircraft carriers, these Sailors calibrate the actual nuclear control rods to generate power aboard these ships. After your training at Nuclear Power & Prototype School, youll be part of a watch team that enables the fission process, which generates steam for propulsion. Few can say they get hands-on experience in a nuclear power plant just three years out of high schoolyoure one of them. ELECTRICANS MATE NUCLEAR Nuclear Electricians Mates are responsible for the operation of a ship's electrical power generation systems, lighting systems, electrical equipment and the overall electrical grid. The duties include installation, operation, adjustment, routine maintenance, inspection, test and repair of electrical equipment. They also perform maintenance and repair of related electronic equipment. As an EMN, youre responsible for troubleshooting the electric breakers and circuits aboard nuclear-powered ships like aircraft carriers and submarines. MACHINISTS MATE NUCLEAR Nuclear Machinists Mates operate and maintain steam turbines and reduction gears used for nuclear ship propulsion and auxiliary machinery such as turbine generators, pumps and oil purifiers. They also maintain auxiliary machinery outside of main machinery spaces, air compressors, refrigeration plants, air conditioning systems and desalinization plants. Nuclear-trained MMs perform duties in nuclear propulsion plant, operating the mechanical side of reactor cooling, propulsion and power generation systems.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS To be an eligible candidate, you must be:
